SCiMA Registration and SCiMA Card

Safeguarding Children in Martail Arts (SCiMA) intend to introduce the SCiMA card from spring 2020. It is envisioned that the SCiMA card will become the martial arts coaches' evidence of learning. The expectation is that all martial artists with the SCiMA card will have undertaken the necessary child protection and safeguarding training and safer recruitment training, as a minimum and have achieved or be working towards coaching standards recognised by their National Governing Body.

Those organisations who do not have an Sport England NGB will be will have achieved or be working towards coaching standards that are applicable to their discipline aligned to the same standards of those recognised by Sport England.

SCiMA registration

SCiMA registration and card holder requirements include the use of a recent colour photograph. This photograph will be used on your SCiMA registration (form); and appear on your SCiMA card.

The SCiMA card will be a credit card size document. As a service provider your registration and record of learning may be accessed using QR code and then entering your unique identifier and password. This will provide an assurance that your registration is current and your learning is up to date.

The SCiMA card is annual and martial arts coaches are expected to renew their registration for online learning and development and refesh their knowledge in the recommended modules on an annual basis in order to retain a current SCiMA card.

What does SCiMA do?

SCiMA is focused on implementing child protection policy, developing safer recruitment practice and enhancing coaching standards with a view to professionalising martial arts instruction, in the Unitied Kingdom and partner organisations in the Republic of Ireland.

SCiMA services will include:

• SCiMA registered martial arts coach database
• Child protection and safeguarding training
• Safer recruitment practice
• Anti-bullying awareness
• First aid essentials

Although self-governing, SCiMA will work in partnership with national and international organisations to promoting best practice in martial arts coaching and organisational management. This includes local and national government organisations and in the UK and internationally.
